Yoga is going on in Jhunjhunu jail these days and the classes are not taken by a Yoga guru, instead a prisoner is taking these classes. The news of a prisoner performing Yoga reached Jail DSP Moinuddin Pathan, who then met the prisoner, Ramkaran, and started Yoga classes inside the jail premises for all the prisoners.
The prisoner from Sikar district, Ramkaran, was involved in an unfortunate accident some time ago which took place in Bagad Police Station area. In the accident, a girl died due to getting hit by his vehicle. After the incident, the case proceedings were going on in the court, and last month Ramkaran was sentenced to two years imprisonment.
Speaking on the preparations for Yoga inside the jail, DSP said that before introducing Yoga classes, he also arranged for a mic set for Om and other tunes of Yoga. In addition, mats were also arranged for performing Yoga.
Ramkaran informed that along with learning and performing Yoga for years by watching it on TV, he also teached Yoga. Although he is a businessman, but he has always been interested in the works of social reform, he added.
DSP Pathan said that along with teaching Yoga to several people, Ramkaran has also planted innumerable plants and tries to make people aware of the problems caused by alcohol and smoking. After he started Yoga classes in jail, the prisoners have started feeling good along with reduced mental stress.
Complaints like irritability, lack of appetite, or headache among the prisoners are also reduced now. In addition to Yoga, there are several other programmes which are going on for both the male and female prisoners, like sports events and sewing training, respectively. This change has been brought after the directions given by the Jail Administration under prisoner corrective programme.
