Jay Panda's chopper seized for 'flying over Chilka lake'; former BJD leader lashes out at Odisha govt

Former Biju Janta Dal (BJD) leader Baijayant Jay Panda lashed out at the Odisha government after the state police filed an FIR against him for allegedly landing in Chilka Lake. The police had even seized his helicopter.

Panda tweeted that had flown to Narada village of his constituency to condole the parents of two children who had drowned in the village pond while playing. He landed back in Bhubaneswar airport, but the FIR alleges that he had landed in Chilka Lake.

"Odisha police, your illegal seizure of the helicopter may slow me, but can't stop me from reaching my people," he tweeted.

In a set of tweets earlier on Tuesday, Panda said that a state government official had filed the complaint, citing media reports that a seaplane had landed in Chilka Lake. "That seaplane has been changed to helicopter in the report," he alleged.

"It so happens i had flown a *helicopter* on Saturday & at a totally different time! ATC records will show that: I flew from 8.45 AM over Rajhans-Puri-Konark & landed at Kendrapada at 10.28 AM. I flew from Kendrapada at 12.50 PM, landing @ Bhubaneswar 1.30pm, (sic)" he claimed.

In May this year, Panda announced in a letter that he’d be quitting the BJD. In a letter to Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik, he said that he had decided to quit the party. He wrote that he was 'heartbroken' that none of his party members came to pay their respects when his father passed away.

He wrote: “It is with deep anguish, hurt and sorrow that I've decided to quit the kind of politics into which BJD has descended.”  He slammed Naveen Patnaik and others for not attending his father’s funeral and wrote: “With the BJD and you yourself having made it abundantly clear that I am unwanted, it is only right for me to dissociate with from it.”
